Decart Toys at G1988 SF

Hi guys!!! So here's something new that we tried in our constant quest for pushing the limit of customs toys!!!!

So after years of customizing toys, what I've heard a lot from people is that toys take a lot of places in a house!!!! So from that statement from collectors, I was looking for a way to make a toy where you can hang it on the wall or just put it on a shelf.....

And...the results are the born of what we called Decart (deco art) Toys!!!

And these ones we're introduce at the Monster Art Rally show at GF1988.

So here's the trio of monsters that we did for the show.

Thanks

NVC's Notorious B.I.G*L

Hi guys!!! So as promised, I will try to keep my blog update with our work as often as I can.

This time, I'll share with you what for Spive and I think is our most impressive work to date.
This custom was made for the Mad Citizens show at Lift Gallery in Detroit.

For this one, we worked on the new 10'' MadL blank platform. Because it's a platform that is much bigger to what we used to work on, well we had to find a way to combine other medium than just sculpting.

So Spive try some ebenistry and wood working in that custom and I think the results are quite impressive. So instead of trying to simulate wood effect well we now use real wood!!!!

So let's go see the pics of our tribute to the one and only Notoriuos B.I.G!!!

Thanks to VP, toysrevil, plastic and plush and formatmag for their post on the project!!!

afew new things

So after a few months without updating...well I have some new stuff for you.....

I'll start by the customs that Spive and I did for Toyqube's show.

The toy platform was the Sharky make y Toyqube themselves.

For this one, we decide to come back with a twist our Ishikawa figure but this time, we turn him into the Roller Warrior of the Egyptian time.....So we have Tutankawa!!!!

We also create a pyramid in which we engrave a roller and of course the NVC on each of the sides!!!!

Hope you enjoy the pics!!!

If you would like to purchase this piece..it's available at Toyqube.

NVC got the Mad Cow-Boy Disease!!!!

Hi guys... So here is the long long awaited custom of the Moody that some people knew that we're working on it for a while but just never got the chance to finish since we've just been so busy with shows here and there....

But hey it's now done and you can see it!!! By the way....there's some job that you're more happy than other andtis one is one of those that we're very happy of how it ended because this platform is just very very very hard to twist it and I think..........that we made it!!!!!

Thanks and talk to you soon!!! By the way, thanks to Andy from toysrevil and Jack from vinylpulse for their post and comments on this custom!!!

NVC Fab 5 at NYCC 2008!!!!

Hi guys!!! I didn't make any post recently because Spive and I we're working for the release of our fisrt 5 copies of Ishikawa for NYCC!!!!! This took us a lot fo time but we're very happy with the results since we've got very positive feedbacks from people at the con who saw it live....

Here I'll post the pics of the toy with the blank face since I was suppose to paint them live at the con...but because of the lack of time and how MPH booth was crowded, it was impossible for me to work live.... So I paint them back stage of MPH booth.....

So the first Fab 5 we're consited of 2 blank face with te eyes in black, 2 lght grey version, and 1 white with little traces of grey stains in it......

They we're all sold out the day before we showed them at MPH booth....... Now there will be only 15 more to be release of the original colorway and since we've got massive demand for our toy......if you want one....you better do fast and email me!!!!

I would like to thank the 5 buyers of Ishikawa for your support and I know that you will all take care of him!!!! Also, if it's possible, send me the pics of him in his new place so I can post it here!!! I don't even have the pics of them with the masks painted!!!!! So....it will be very cool if I can get them and post them on my blog!!!!

Finally, I would like to thank Andy from toysrevil, Brain form plasticandplush and finally Jack from vinylpulse for supporting us by making several posts on Ishikawa.....

Jack even did a live report of Ishikawa at NYCC..... You can read his post here

So...here we go with the pics......

We can easily the fan out there with his KR's Madvillain ty, along with the MF Doom custom .....and then with the Quasimoto custom.....sounds good to us..!!!

But have to admit that this thing is just damn hard to render...it might look easy....but it is not!!!!

NVC's first toy: Ishikawa: The Roller Warrior!!!!

Hi everyone!!!! I'm sorry for not updating my blog for almost now 6 months!!!! Wahhhh!!!! When I'm thinking of this...it's just crazy... But I've been very busy recently that I did not even think of updating my blog....

And one of the reason why I was that busy....is because we we're working on our first toy prototype that will be release this year!!!!!! Yes....NVC will self-produce their fist toy in resin!!!!!!
After talking to a lot of people, we just decide that the best way for us to keep total control on our product is to make it by ourself..... By the way, I would like to thank to Dave Pressler, Ted Stilson, Andy from toysrevil , Phuek, etc....for their advice and help for my search for the production of our toy...

So, enough blah....blah....let's go see that figure..... So the toy will be in resin, approx. 5' or 6'' tall and will be all handpainted!!!! Well because we want our toy to look like our "one-of-a-kind" custom toy that we will all handpainted them....and little details can be added at the final stage.....

So.....I'll try to keep my blog update on the production process of the toy....And if you are interested to get...email to me, because we will make a very limited run of the toy since we want to keep it as a collectible item.....

By the way, I would like to thank Andy from toysrevil
for his interview with us on the story behind this toy.... You guys should really read this interview. You will learn a lot on all the concept that we elaborate before we start to sculpt this toy....

Also, I would like to thank Jack from vinylpulse and Brian from plasticandplush for their support of our project...You guys always support us since day one when we start to custom toys...Thanks again......

There's also a lot of other websites that talked about our toy....Thanks to all of you for your support...It's really appreciated....and we will do our best to come with the best product we can....

best wishes for Holidays time!!!!!

Hi everyone! NVC big update!!!!

Hi everyone! It's been a while that I didn't update my blog......I was simply too tired sharibng my time with my work as a dentist and producing some pieces for shows...... But hey....good news is that I have plenty of pics for ya!!!!!

So let's start with our submission pieces for the "i Am 8-Bit" show at Gallery 1988 in LA...... This year was the 20th Anniversary of the Megaman franchise so we jump on the occasion to make a tribute to this series that was one of our fav games back in the days....

Also...notice that we incorporated some circuit bending in one of the controler.....so we can produce a sound bomb from the controler and play with the sound!!!!! Idea and conception was from our friend Johnny Ill Digger from the Boom Bap Cats.......

Next project was our Vinyl Fantasy: The Final Element.....for the vinyl elements show....... This show was organized by Jack and Francine from vinylpulse.com and featured the top 50 top toy customizers in the world......So you guys understand that we worked quite hard on that proejct to come ready for the show!!!!! So after almost 3 months of work....here's the results......

You can read the whole story behind this project in the interview that we gave to Andy of toysrevil.blogspot.com

Here's the link: http://toysrevil.blogspot.com/2007/05/nvc-crews-vinyl-fantasy-final-elements.html

Thanks everyone for supporting us....and enjoy the pics......

So enough talking, let's see the pics...

next project is our The Grim Reaper Raving Rabbid project.....Well there's nothing much to say on this project since it's quite a str8 forward project and images will tell everything..... Everything was hand sculpted and the main toy platform was the Raving Rabbid toy from Ubisoft..

Our last project of the year...NVC's Afro Samurai Dunny!!

Hi everyone!!! It's already the end of the year....and to finish 2006.... We decided to make a tribute to this super animation serie that will start on January 4 th on Spike TV.......It's called Afro Samurai and it will feature Samuel L. Jackson and soudtrack will be done by the one and only RZA from the Wu Tang.....
With this introduction, you probably know why we decided to make a project on this animation....It simply has all the elements that we're digging..... A mix of martial arts and hip hop........

So we make this custom with a 2'' Dunny.....and then we created and build up all the set-up and diaporama for the background....So everything is handmade and handpainted......

Needless to say more....Let's see the pics!!! By the way...thanks for Genevieve Sasseville for some of the pics. We would also like to thank to my good friend Kers for his magic touch on the smoke of the Afro Samurai!!!

Would like to thanks a few people that make a post on our Afro Samurai project:

Jack and Francine from vinylpulse.com
Brian from plasticandplush.com
Tang from kitoy.fr
Kirkland from toybot studios

Thanks to all of you who supports us and happy new year!!!!

NVC December SAGA

Here's our latest project . We're the artist of the month for December for a company called octobertoys.com
For thsi project, we custom their toy platform called the Gwin. It's a 2.5'' tall penguin blank platform. We decided to do a series of cyborg S.W.A.T team and for the rest of the blanks, we decided to use the platform differently. We sinply found that that if we're delimiting the belly of the toy, we've got some kind of face that wears something on his head.....

Because it's Holiday time, we've decided to make the Grinch....but because of the name of the toy.....we decided to called it the Gwinch!!!! To push the concept further, we decided to call the it " Dr.Bao's How the Gwinch Stole Xmas" in reference to the real title of the movie called "Dr.Seuss How The Grinch Stole Xmas"!!!!!

Our last custom is called Mr. Lunatiq......it's simply a character that is sometimes lost in his ideas and dreams....

All these custom can be bought via gwinarmy.com
The Gwinch and Mr. Lunatiq will be on auction. All the money will be donated to an association called Association Quebecoise du Syndrome de la Tourette which is an organism helping people with Gilles de la Tourette syndrom.

We would like to thanks Johnny Illdigger from Boom Bap Cats for the artwork on our promo sheet for the Gwinch and the Gwin Swat Army!!!!

We ould also thanks to Francine and Jack from vinylpulse.com and also Brian from plasticandplush.com for their post on the Gwin project!!

Thanks and hapy holidays time!

Dr.Bao....NVC crew....

Hi everybody!! It's been a while that I did not update my blog... We've been so busy with many projects that we haven't time to post some of our new works.....But hey...here's the treat now......there will be plenty of new stuff for you to check!!!!

Let's start with a project that we did for the We're All Mad Here show in Los Angeles....It was a tribute show for the Cheschire cat from Walt Disney.....Since we have to do a cat for the show, we just decide to do something related to our friend's hip hop music called The Boom Bap Cats!!!! So it was a kind of tribute for their excellent work.
So we've created a kind of hip hop cat that carries a grammophone on his back. We decided to transform his tail into the horn of the grammophone too.
To push our concept further, we decided to incorporate some real speakers into the belly of the cat so people can really put the plug into their computer, cd or mp3 player and can hear their music!!!

We would like to thanks Francine and Jack from from vinylpulse.com for thes article on our Cheschire Cat custom. There's also Brian form plasticandplush.com and Kirkland from toybotstudios

NVC's The Bronze Migration

So hey here's our latest custom... We just received our winning prizes for the Kid Robot Film Festival....and inside the box, there were those Zipperpull Munny!!!! They are so cute but so freaky small!!!! 1'' tall.....The size of an American quarter!!!
So we just challenge ourself to reproduce Nakamura on a request of a KR forum member that followed our work for a while.... We also found in our vinyl toy store a mini Smorkin' Labbit and a Mongers Bob.... They fit perfectly well with the Zipperpull since they are on the same scale.

As for the tittle and concept of this project, we we're inspired by Bronze Nazareth's album The Great Migration.
We also thought that the cd cover of the French group IAM would fit perfectly for this project and we just asked our sound engineer Johnny Ill Digger from Boom Bap Cats to redo the cover a la NVC style... Thanks Johnny!

You can read the article of this project on vinylpulse.com and plasticandplush.com too. Thanks Francine fromVP and Brian from plasticandplush.com for your support.

So that's all and hope you enjoy the pics!

NVC meets Wu Tang Clan!!!

Here's the pics of our first 2 samples of the upcoming project "Shaolin vs Wu Tang" The concept was simple. Since we like to do asian theme characters and that we're fans of the Wu Tang Clan. We simply thought to bring the Wu in the warriors forms and redo the Shaolin vs Wu Tang theme!

The project was well received by the toy community as you can read on these posts by vinlypulse.com, lifeinabungalo.com, plasticandplush.com and vinylabuse.com.
Thank you Francine, George, Brian and UnsungZero for these posts. Your support is very apreciated!

So....enjoy the pics and don't hesitate to put your comments.

Kunoichi Tamo Phayani

Ok, so here's our work for the Taipei Toy Festival 2006 that will be held in Taipei next week. We received a blank platform from Andy to do the custom for that show. As soon as we saw the Tamo for the first time, we saw straight up a kunoichi (female ninja) in it. It's one of the rare toy that has a shape that can look like a female....So we just jump on the occasion to transform this toy into our kunoichi a la NVC style. We also made a bamboo forest for the character. We create a kind of peacefull place where she camo to relax by making a river and a bridge. We add a little touch of spiritual into it too by making a little shrine that we put in a corner. But at the same time we want to put a little bit of action into it and for that we decide to cutt off some bamboo trees to simulate if that we're fights in that peacefull place too... So kunoichi Tamo use to come there to relax, but sometimes she's been followed by ennemies and had to fight even in her "rest area".

To finish up the project we decide to make a video footage of the character. We even ask our sound and music engineer Johnny ill Digger from Boom Bap Cats to create a custom track for the video clip. We wanted something with asisan instrument but with a twist of hip hip flavor since we're from the hip hop culture... Johnny came up with this superb track... Mad props Johnny for your work!

So here's the link for the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUMWsweidu8

We also receive an article from plasticandplush.com for the custom.....Thanks Brian for your support.

Vinylpulse.com will have a post on the custom also in a couple of days.... Thanks Francine.

Ok....enough talk...let's have a look at the pics!

Big update!!!!!

Hey it's been a while that I didn't update the blog!!! I've been very busy at work and on some customs for upcoming shows that we will feature in soon. So here's the big update today!
First let me introduce to you our favorite animation character, what make us like animation today!!! Its' the grand.... Grendizer!!! We start this project for a while but as it was so complicate to do, we just put it away for a while before coming back to it 1-2 months later.

So we took the Kid Robot Munny platform to custom this one. This was our first try on the Munny. Before this one, we only use 3'' Dunny to custom our toys... So we simply found out that 6'' Munny was huge compare to what we use to take. Doing the king of custom we're doing, 6'' Munny was a lot of work. The sculpting was not that bad except for the horns that was just damn sick to put on!!! The hardest thing on tis custom was the paint job. We just want to make all the color seperation well and that was a very frstration step in the custom...but we're quite happy with the results...

So I'll let you on these pictures of the Grendizer Munny Project part 1!!!

Geiko Myori Lost in the Disenchanted World!

Here's our latest custom...It's called "Geiko Myori Lost in the Disenchanted World". Basically the idea behind this custom was to reproduce the kind of paintings I was doing on my smashed cans but in 3D world. The geisha is made from a 3'' Dunny that I cut the ears.

We want to create a background for the geisha to reproduce the kind of mood in my paintings....so we choose to create an universe where all the colors are shift and look unreal....At the same time we want to put a lttle touch of drakness in it....that whhy we made the root from the tree to become a hand that want to grab the geisha.

You can read more on Geiko Myori on vinylpulse.com and vinylabuse.com
Thanks to Francine from vinylpulse.com and Sichi from vinylabuse.com for their support.

Enjoy the pics!

Friday, April 28, 2006

So here's our latest custom....Shi Yan Cung the soulless and possessed warrior.....!!! It is made from a 3'' Dunny that we cut off the ears, so now it's like a 2'' Dunny!!! We want to create a kind of "peasant-warrior" that look soulless but at the same time cute......Cuteness was something that we still want to keep in the character...I think that the way we play with the colors and the shape of the eyes make the effect that we want to realize.

Because we want to give our character more personnality and put him in a storyline, we decide to sculpt from scratch a mount of bones and skulls!!!! Everything is hand scuplted... We even try to give each skulls face an unique expression!!!!

So hope that you enjoy the pics and give us some feedbacks...it's always a pleasure to read them!!!!

You can read more on vinylpulse.com
Thanks to Francine and Jack from vinylpulse.com for supporting us. You are just the web site reference in the toy industry world!!!

Thanks!
